Bearings for NSU
An important element of design in the engine and
other parts of the car is the ball bearing, and also the
needle bearing and tapered roller bearing.
Below is a list (catalog FAG) of all bearings,
used in all cars and the motorcycle NSU Maxi.
When you open a single row deep groove ball bearing carefully, you can ask yourself:
A. how they make the rings and balls;
B. How they get the balls between the outer and inner ring!
Answer: read it below.
Assembling the balls
Bearing 6205.C3 - 25 x 52 x 15 mm
inner ring 25 x 33,5 mm, outer ring 52 x 43 mm and 9 balls d= 8 mm.
The inner ring is placed against the outer ring.
In the open space down 8 balls (Fig. 1), then the ninth ball in the middle of the 8 balls and the inner ring is pushed against the outer ring pressed just above the center of the outer ring.
With some force (A), the inner ring is pressed to the middle (Fig. 2).
In the film below this important issue is not in pictures. Then the balls are evenly divided and a cage is fitted, usually greased and most of the models seal coated.

Bearings dismounting and mounting
Dismounting
Remove bearing only when really necessary. Make sure no dirt enters the ball bearings in case of reuse. Remove a ball bearing with a specialpuller and prevent deformation damage of the the room or shaft. Local heating (by glowlamp) of the bearing can positively affect disassembly.
Mounting
Installation requires extra attention. Early bearing failure is caused by two factors: improper installation (16%) and pollution (14%). Poor lubrication ensures 36% failure and fatigue of the material due to fluctuating load 34%. When mounting the ball bearings subject. Use a good bearing mandrel assembly (flat against inner and outer ring).
Do not take the new bearing out of his package until immediately before it is to be mounted.
Make the room or shaft clean and oil it very lightly for a smooth installation. A room setting can safely be heated with eg. a light bulb. Never hit a hammer on the ball bearing but use a good bearing mandrel.
Grease
Ball bearings, tapered roller bearings and needle bearings can be lubricated with oil or grease. SKF recommends for cars LGMT type 2, a multi-purpose normal temperature grease based on lithium soap / mineral oil with a temperature range of -30 / 120 degrees Celsius with a viscosity of 110.
FAG has developed the L71V Arcanol based lithium grease with a temperature range of -30 / 130 degrees Celsius with a viscosity of 100.
